Case study · Westglade Primary & Nursery School, Nottingham

A slamming school door is a safety fault, not a nuisance

The concealed transom closers on a double aluminium door set at Westglade had lost their hydraulics. With nothing left to damp the swing, each leaf fell shut under its full spring force — at exactly the height of a child’s fingers. The school’s health and safety review flagged it, and we were asked to put it right while lessons carried on.

Finger traps. A door with no closing control shuts in under a second. Small hands on the meeting stile or the hinge edge have no time to get clear.
Knock-downs. A heavy aluminium leaf swinging unchecked will put a reception-age child on the floor.
Safeguarding. The same worn closer often stops the door closing at all, leaving a classroom open to the playground and the street beyond it.

At Westglade the fix was a full hardware set on each of four aluminium fire doors: a Dorma transom closer kit, an end-load arm, a new bottom pivot and new shoot bolts, then the closing and latching speeds set to a child-safe pace — one door at a time, behind barriers, with the school open.

APG Door Lock Replacement

for Retail Premises

Project Spotlight: All Purpose Glass Door Lock Replacement The retail client contacted us after experiencing repeated difficulties with their broken APG door lock. The lock was sticking, difficult to turn, and ultimately unreliable - a significant issue for any retail environment where smooth access and security are essential.

Our first step was a thorough assessment of the door and lock mechanism. APG doors, while robust, require specialized locks and precise handling during repairs. In this case, the lock showed signs of wear and corrosion, likely due to constant use and exposure to varying weather conditions, making replacement the most effective solution.

Aluminium Door Repair

For Our Commercial Clients

Initial Assessment and Problem Diagnosis
When we arrived on-site, the first priority was to assess the condition of the broken aluminium shop door and identify the root causes of its malfunction. Upon inspection, it was clear that the door’s bottom pivot had become dislodged. Pivots are essential in providing stability and smooth operation for swinging doors. In commercial settings, they face constant use, and with time, they can wear out or even come loose due to the heavy foot traffic they handle.
